Monthly photo competition

Hempey Cup – the photo competition

Show off your most beautiful plant! In the Hempey Cup, photos of people’s own plants compete against each other – every month, in seven categories. Only what can be seen in the photo is judged.

Hempey, your host

Welcome to the Hempey Cup! I'm your host. I'm looking forward to resinous buds, rare landraces, crazy mutants and rescued plants. Important: this is only about photos – no samples, no consumption, no passing anything on. There are no material prizes: whoever wins is champion for a month and gets a permanent place in the Hall of Fame.

The first Hempey Cup starts on 1 December 2026. There are no entries until then – from 1 December, your posts with #HempeyCup count.

The bud with the densest trichome frost – macro shots very welcome.

#HempeyCupPheno

  1. Photograph your own plant – plant only: no people, no faces, no addresses or recognisable places.

  3. Post the photo on X with #HempeyCup and exactly one category hashtag, e.g. #HempeyCupHarz.

Rounds & judging

Each round lasts one calendar month. Posts published during that month count. After the round ends (last day of the month, 23:59 German time), Flo evaluates the entries and publishes the results here.

  • Public vote: the likes on your X post at the end of the round are counted. The entry with the most likes wins the category. In a tie, the post published earlier wins.
  • Jury pick: independently of the likes, Flo chooses a personal favourite in each category. The public vote and the jury pick can go to the same entry.
  • Play fair: bought likes, bots, like swapping or any other manipulation lead to exclusion.

Champions: The winners of a round are featured as champions of their category during the following month, here and on the home page – after that they are listed permanently in the Hall of Fame.

Hall of Fame

The Hempey badge

Hempey Cup badge: Hempey on a golden rosette with a star and the words HEMPEY CUP

Whoever wins a category is featured as champion of that category for one month, is listed permanently in the Hall of Fame and may use the badge on X. The badge is a digital image – not a material prize.

Tested equipment for the community (Code of Independence): Whenever grow equipment or horticultural accessories pass our independent efficacy testing without compromises (and are not returned as a loan), we do not keep them for ourselves – instead, they are passed on to the community via the Hempey Cup (strictly legal gardening, lighting or climate accessories only – never cannabis, seeds or cuttings pursuant to §§ 6, 9 KCanG).

Conditions of participation

This is a translation for convenience. Only the German conditions of participation are binding.

German law only: this page covers the legal situation in Germany only. Cannabis laws differ greatly from country to country – in many countries growing and possessing cannabis is a criminal offence.

  1. Adults only: only persons aged 18 and over may take part.
  2. Only your own, legally grown plants: you may only submit photos of plants you grew yourself – legally under the law of your country. In Germany, among other things: no more than three plants at the same time per adult (§ 9 KCanG). If growing is prohibited in your country, please do not take part.
  3. Only the photo is judged: no samples, no tasting, no smoking and no passing on of cannabis in any form – privately grown cannabis must not be passed on (§ 9(2) KCanG).
  4. No prizes: There are no material prizes – it's all about the fun. Winners are featured as champion for one month and listed permanently in the Hall of Fame. There is no cannabis, no seeds, no goods, no vouchers, no money and no sponsors (advertising and sponsorship ban, § 6 KCanG). Sole exception (independently tested gear): Legal gardening, lighting or climate accessories that pass our independent efficacy check under our Code of Independence are never kept by us, but passed on to the community via the Hempey Cup.
  5. No advertising: entries must not name or link brands, shops, seed banks or breeders (including on labels or packaging in the picture). Strain names are allowed. Entries containing advertising are excluded.
  6. Privacy: no faces, no people, no addresses, house numbers, number plates or geotags. Remove the metadata (EXIF/GPS) before uploading.
  7. Fairness: one entry per account per category and round. Bought likes, bots or like swapping lead to exclusion.
  8. Exclusion: Flo may exclude entries at any time without giving reasons, in particular in case of breaches of these conditions.
  9. Consent & privacy: By posting with #HempeyCup you agree that your public post, your X handle and your photo may be shown or linked on this site – and, if you win, featured as champion for one month and listed permanently in the Hall of Fame. We prefer to link to or embed the original post on X rather than copy photos. You can ask at any time for your post or entry to be removed – an email to kontakt@igrowpedia.de is enough.
  10. No legal entitlement: there is no entitlement to take part, be judged or receive a champion title. The Hempey Cup may be changed or ended at any time.
